5 ways to look out for yourself

It's no secret that I love everything self-care. I pride myself in the fact that I know exactly what I need to do when life gets to me or I'm in a bad mood or even in a bad mental health space. This knowledge has come over time after having so many times when I felt down or anxious that I had to come up with an emergency kit to get myself out of that space. And while that's really great and helpful it's even better to not even get to a place where you need it.

There is nothing wrong with having a down week etc. but there are ways in which you can look out for yourself and prevent this from happening. Nevertheless, if life gets too much or even when you don't even know why you're upset that's fine, too. Just accept it and let is pass. However here are the ways in which I look out for myself and my mental health as a preventive measure:

Summer Skincare for Oily to Combination skin

At this point I'm annoyed at myself about how much I complain about this summer of horrors, but I feel since I emphasize how much I dislike summer all year around I am entitled to this. I get pretty pissed off at people that wish for summer whenever there is a slight breeze and now complain about it. You wished for it, so deal with it. Anyway, I am suffering from daily mental breakdowns whenever I take a look at the weather forecast and pray for rain and a temperature drop whenever I get a chance. While I am blessed with an above average cool apartment my office unfortunately does not have air conditioning and in the last few weeks of this heat wave it has become harder and harder to focus on the easiest tasks. I just can't deal with anything while it's this unbearably hot.

'No Fuss' Summer Make Up Routine

There has never been a summer in which I've been less enthused to try out high maintenance make up looks than this one. All I want at this point is for it to go on quick and still look good after a few hours in the heat. So I've been repeating the same routine for a few weeks now and I think it makes for a great no fuss summer look.

Why I value Alone time so much

Recently I've been thinking a lot about how much I love to spend time on my own and in conjunction with that, that for many people that isn't the case. A lot of people dread spending some alone time and not having plans and of course you can boil that down to the fact that some people are extroverts who crave social interaction and stimulation while others, like myself are introverts and feel drained by spending time in social surroundings. But after having a little think about it, I believe that there is more to it and that even extroverts could benefit from a little down-time with themselves from time to time and here is why...

Four Things on my May To-Do List

It's gonna be May! Well, actually it is already May and the Justin Timberlake meme is not that apt anymore. Since May is my Taurean season I feel a little bit more alive and upbeat again than the last few weeks and wanted to come back to my blog with a May to-do list.

Perfect Off-Duty Skin

On Sundays I hardly ever wear make up simply due to lack of plans and motivation to leave my couch. But frome time to time, when I have some plans or am puttering around the house and need a bit of a fresh start in the morning to get going I will try to do the max of appearance improvement with a minimum of effort. When I'm forgoing foundation and heavy make up I try to make my skin look it's best as it's then the focal point of my face.

My At-Home Spa Routine

Anyone who knows me just a little bit knows that I am obsessed with everything skincare, face-massage, spa treatments and relaxation. Unfortunately Spa-treatments aren't the most inexpensive hobby which is why it oftentimes comes in handy to have an at-home spa-like routine that doesn't cost you anything (apart from the purchase of skin care products but I do that anyway) but will relax you at least 80% like a real treatment.

The People Who Shape Us

"The books you read and the people you surround yourself with today define the person you will be in five years"

I always loved this quote. From the moment I read it years ago I started trying to deeply understand its meaning and put more of an effort into my relationships, the people I surround myself with and the ways they contribute to my life and to me growing as a person. We always think of our parents first when we try to recunstruct the influences that shaped us but oftentimes forget the people we spend most of our teenage and adult time with. In contrast to family, friends are people you can hand-pick. Even though friendships form spontaneously and out of the moment when you feel like you click with someone, it has to be a concious choice as who to keep in your life for the long run.

How I Tackle Problem Skin

If I told my fifteen year old self that heavily blemished skin and acne would soon be problems of the past she would probably cry with happiness. But even though those days lay long behind me (THANK GOD!) I still have the odd breakout from time to time and am constantly dealing with clogged pores and oily skin. So for the days when that happens I have figured out a routine that helps me to get rid of annoying blemishes and zits.

Sunday Update | What I've been loving

It's Sunday once again. This week has been mainly dominated by lacking sunshine, or light whatsoever. I can't shake the feeling that January is the darkest month of them all and even though I love gloomy and rainy days inside I also need some light to function. Especially frustrating when you're living that flatlay life and can't seem to get any nice shots because it's just so damn dark outside. For that matter I've spent my week mostly hibernating and working from bed and trying to replace sunshine with good reads and other things that made me a little bit chirpier.

My Thoughts on Ouai Hair Care

In all things beauty my least favourite category is hair care. My hair usually never does what I want it to do and never looks picture perfect when I need it to. Most "holy grail" products that bloggers swear by usually only cater to straight, greasy hair because that's what most people have. Only I have fine and dry curls. So when I stumbled upon the Ouai Morning After Kit I was sceptical.

Little Ways to Self-Care with a Full-time Job

Until recently I had never worked a full-time job and in my youthful naivete I could never quite understand what people meant when they said that they literally don't have time for anything. But now I fully comprehend the struggle of working 9 to 5 everyday. When your work isn't conveniently located next door it is likely that you are stuck in traffic or have to commute on public transport to work and back each day as well, which leaves practically no time to take some time off for yourself. It really is: work, sleep, repeat. But it is so very important to still have some me-time integrated into your work week to not completely go insane. So I wanted to share some of the ways that helped me do that.

Beauty Edit | January

January is the month I feel most uninspired; not only when it comes to my make up but in general as well. The times of festive and berry autumn and christmas make up are over and the pretty pastells of spring still seem light years away.

Blog Relaunch & 2018 Goals

Yes, hi... it's me. The person, that totally forgot about her blog for the last six months. Well, that's not entirely true. I didn't forget about it but a lot happened and even though I love blogging and it's more like a hobby than an obligation I needed to concentrate on "life stuff" (adulting...UGH!) and invest my free time in my friends and family. But now I have all the free time in the world and wanted to come back with a bang.
