Summer Skincare for Oily to Combination skin

At this point I'm annoyed at myself about how much I complain about this summer of horrors, but I feel since I emphasize how much I dislike summer all year around I am entitled to this. I get pretty pissed off at people that wish for summer whenever there is a slight breeze and now complain about it. You wished for it, so deal with it. Anyway, I am suffering from daily mental breakdowns whenever I take a look at the weather forecast and pray for rain and a temperature drop whenever I get a chance. While I am blessed with an above average cool apartment my office unfortunately does not have air conditioning and in the last few weeks of this heat wave it has become harder and harder to focus on the easiest tasks. I just can't deal with anything while it's this unbearably hot.

One thing that keeps my spirits high in these dark times is my skincare (as always). As someone who has oily/combination skin summer is a constant struggle to find the right balance between 'glowy summer goddess' and 'shiny sweaty mess'. Make up tends to be no big help in this department once it gets really hot, so I depend on my skincare to combat most of the oiliness. Another struggle I tend to have in summer are break outs. I don't know why exactly that is but I think it's a combination of touching my face more often and excess sebum and sweat. I also feel like the air in summer is kind of 'dirtier', meaning loaded with pollutants. So my summer skincare motto is detoxify and mattify.

I like to wash my face with the Burt's Bees Radiant Facial Cleanser as it is leighweight and leaves your face feeling fresh and clean. To give my skin, especially the one around my cheek area where I tend to be a little bit more dry, some long lasting moitsure I've been using the Kiehls Cactus Flower and Tibetean  Ginseng Hydrating Mist. It's very refreshing and also very calming for the night time or when you're skin gets a bit flustered in the heat. As a Clinique fangirl I am using the Dramatically different moisturizing gel as a nightly moisturizer because it isn't too rich for my skin but still gives off enough moisture and helps to smoothe out any texture. I also rely on the Biotherm Liquid Glow oil to detoxify my skin over night and reverse the effects of any free radicals. And when I feel a break out coming up I go to the trusty Caudalie Detox mask which not only helps to get rid of blackheads and zits but also of excess oils and shine.

What are your summer time skincare heroes?

xx Laura
